Arizona Blue Sky Flyers
June 27th Fly In to Pinetop
Due to unforeseen circumstances, many of the members were not able to make the fly in to Pinetop so the only members making the trip, other than Tanna and Dave of course, were Sandy and Dewey Harnagel. The rest of the members who were not able to make the trip don’t know what they missed out on.
We flew into the Show Low airport on Friday morning and were picked up by Tanna and Dave. From there they drove us to Greer where we had lunch at the Greer Lodge on the patio outside overlooking a beautiful small lake with its resident ducks and geese. It was also feeding time for the fish in the lake and apparently they were as hungry as we were. At an elevation of 8500 feet it was nice and cool sitting outside and the food was excellent.
We then made our way into Pinetop from the back way and arrived at Tanna and Dave’s wonderful cabin and met Annie, their gorgeous Irish Setter. After a nice nap we enjoyed the rest of the afternoon just visiting in their back yard and throwing a ball for Annie. (There are over 100 trees on their property.)
That evening they had some local friends over for a bar-b-que. Hamburgers, hot dogs, ribs, Mmmm delicious. Sitting around a fire log in the back yard that evening Dewey got out his ever present guitar for a few songs and by nine o’clock it was cool enough that even the light jackets we took along were not enough. That was quite a change for us valley dwellers.
The following morning after a great breakfast again, cooked outside, we took a hike around a small local lake about a half mile from the cabin. The lake was very picturesque as well as some of the wildlife. (See the Gallery for Photos)
Unfortunately we had an obligation in the valley that evening so we had to get back. After enjoying the cool air for a day, we were ready to stay a while longer, but at least the trip back was made a bit sweeter because we got to ride back to the airport in Dave’s 1963 Ford Thunderbird. He even let Dewey drive it to the airport. He felt like a kid again.
Tanna says that we will do this again later on when perhaps more members can attend. If so, I know for sure that Sandy and Dewey will be there.
