Globe Breakfast and Apache Jii (Day) 10/16/10

Two airplanes and 6 members made the trip to Globe San Carlos airport on Saturday morning October 16th.  Attendees were; Jim and Gert Little, Keith and Margaret Monet, and Dewey and Sandy Harnagel. The trip there was nice and smooth and there was not a breath of wind blowing at the airport when we landed there.  We walked across the highway to the Apache Gold Casino where we had a a wonderful breakfast at very reasonable prices.

After breakfast, the casino was kind enough to provide us transportation into town where the Apache Jii, which means "Day", celebration was taking place.  They had the streets on either side of the main intersection blocked off.  There were many booths offering food and lots of Native American jewelry.  The intersection itself was show center.  Throughout the day there was constant entertainment including Native American flute players, dancers, etc.

After a couple of hours enjoying the festivities, we called the casino for a ride back to the airport and were promptly picked up by Shaun, our gracious and courteous van driver who not only took us back to the casino for a restroom break, but then gave us a ride across the highway to the airport.

The trip back to Deer Valley was a bit bumpy but was made all better by a stop at Culvers' for ice cream after we put the airplanes away.

Below are some pictures of the day.

Jail built in 1910

The sign says this is the world's tallest 3 story building.

Jim did some research and found that, according to Ripley's Believe It Or Not, there is a 3 story building in Kentucky that is the tallest. Oh well!

Basket weaver. I wonder how many baskets she has made in her lifetime?

The Native American dancers really put on a good show.

Many colorful costumes

Don't try this at home!
