Arizona Blue Sky Flyers

April 2008 Fly In to Page

On Thursday morning, April 3rd, 2008 3 airplanes and 8 members of the Arizona Blue Sky Flyers flew to Page, Arizona.

Page is an interesting area with beautiful scenery all around you. We stayed at a newly remodeled Best Western and most everything was within walking distance of the hotel.

After a quick lunch, we headed down to the Glen Canyon Dam for a guided tour of the dam.  The eight of us got a tour of the Glen Canyon Dam by a very personable young man who we learned later was still in training (trust me you would never have known it).

After we got back from the dam tour (pun intended) we walked down to the Wesley Powell museum and learned a little more about the history of the area.

We ate that night at a great little Italian restaurant where our also very personable waitress filled us in on the area (and told us that our tour guide was a newbie).

On Friday, after a great breakfast, we trekked down to the "Raft The Canyon" headquarters and took a tour bus down to the base of the Glen Canyon Dam where we got off to start our trip down the Colorado River. Footnote: before getting to the base of the dam the tour bus stopped before entering this very long tunnel. We all had to get off the bus and put our personal belongings on a trailer which went ahead of us through the tunnel----this was a homeland security thing---you never know what a group of tourists may have with them you know. Then the eight of us (along with a few other souls) boarded a pontoon raft and started our tour of the entrance to the Grand Canyon. Our very personable guide (hmmm I am beginning to see a pattern here) gave us a leisurely tour down the river and all I can say is WOW!!! If you haven’t done this trip before you really should. It is so very beautiful and if you pick the right time of year (which we did) you will fall in love with this area.

The tour ended at Lees Ferry where our tour bus met us and brought us back to Page. We ate that night at the Dam Bar and Grill-----this town has a lot of ‘dams’ in it.

Next day it was back to reality and home we went. Great trip!

It was a great trip.  Sorry you missed it.
